People will have to learn to apply the three most important ecological principles in a nature-driven agriculture: adaptation (adaptability, resilience), efficiency (in terms of optimal utilization of resources through the interplay of organisms) and diversity (which is the basis for ecological adaptation and efficiency) . These three principles are the ecological Leitmotiv for what you may call a ‘truly sustainable food production’. This way you get a definition that cuts wood, because the only way to reduce CO2 right is the solution. We have to let nature work for us, to realize a sustainable climate-smart food production. To stay in the terms of my Wageningen employer: to explore the potential of nature, to improve the quality of life.
